Dolceacqua, dimora del pregiato vino Rossese DOC

Dolceacqua (Imperia)

Due antichi quartieri, uniti dalla linea leggiadra di un ponte quattrocentesco e le rovine di un castello che sovrasta l’abitato sono il ritratto di Dolceacqua, piccolo comune in provincia di Imperia.

Dei due borghi, Terra è il più antico, con il disegno urbanistico costituito da cerchi per meglio difendersi in epoche in cui erano frequenti le incursioni  e i tentativi di possesso del borgo e del castello.

Ciò che oggi rimane dell’edificio, costruito nel 12° secolo dai Doria e successivamente ampliato, sono le rovine conseguenti al terremoto del 1887.

Il torrente Nervia, su cui sorge l’antico ponte in pietra del ‘400, separa Terra da Borgo, il  quartiere più recente di Dolceacqua risalente all’800.

Insignito della Bandiera Arancione, con cui il Touring Club Italiano premia i borghi più belli d’Italia seguendo criteri basati sul contesto paesaggistico, l’identità culturale e l’offerta di servizi turistici, Dolceacqua vanta la produzione di un vino pregiato e reperibile solo sul territorio in cui viene prodotto.

Si tratta del celeberrimo Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC, tipico della Val Nervia che si estende nella provincia di Imperia.

Il vino, di colore rosso rubino, ha un profumo intenso e sapore corposo, qualità che si intensificano a seconda del grado di invecchiamento. Gli abbinamenti ottimali si ottengono con carni bianche e rosse, ad esempio capra, cinghiale e coniglio, oltre ad alcune varietà di pesce e formaggi stagionati.

Proprio la Val Nervia fornisce i vigneti per la produzione del Rossese di Dolceacqua, le cui caratteristiche non furono disdegnate nemmeno da Napoleone.

Two old areas divided by the graceful shape of a 15^th century bridge and the ruins of a castle overlooking the village underneath is the skyline of Dolceacqua, in the province of Imperia.

The oldest part is called Terra, based on a circle plan to strengthen defense in ages when raids and attacks for the possession of the castle were frequent. The ruins witness the earthquake of 1887, which definitively damaged the castle built by the Dorias in the 12^th century.

The Nervia, flowing underneath the ancient stone bridge, separates Terra from Borgo, the recent area dating back to the 19^th century. Dolceacqua has been awarded with the Orange Flag, the Italian Touring Club’s initiative that prizes the most beautiful villages in Italy according to their landscape, cultural identity and touristic services.

In addition to the historical background, Dolceacqua boasts another important attraction related to the wine production. In fact, the village is situated within the Nervia Valley, an area devoted to the production of the very excellent wine, Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC, which can be found only in Imperia’s territory.

The ruby red, full-bodied wine has an  intense fragrance, getting stronger while maturing. Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC can be happily combined with white meat, goat, wild boar, rabbit, some types of fish and ripe cheese. Nervia Valley is exactly the area where the vineyards producing Rossese di Dolceacqua grow, whose quality was appreciated even by Napoleon.

Dolceacqua, die Heimat des wetvollen Weines Rossese DOC

Die Sclossruinen an der Spitze des Dorfes, die das hübsche Profil einer Brücke des 15. Jahrhunderts und zwei alte Flecken darunter beherrschen  ist  das Bild von Dolceacqua in der Provinz Imperia.

Der älteste Dorfteil ist Terra gennant, der sich um einen kreisförmigen Plan entwickelt, der das Dorf und das Schloss vor den häufigen Angriffen in der Vergangenheit verteidigen sollte. Die Schlossruinen sind das Zeichen des Erdbebens von 1887, das die von den Doria im 12. Jahrhundert gebautete Residenz definitiv  beschädigte.

Unter der Brücke fliesst der Nervia, der die älteste Dorfteil Terra und den neueste Teil vom 19. Jahrhundert, Borgo trennt. Dolceacqua wurde von dem italienischen Touring Club mit der Orange Flagge ausgezeichnet. Es handelt sich um einen Preis, damit die schönsten Dörfer Italiens auf der Basis ihrer Landschaft, kulturellen Identität und touristischen Dienste gefördert werden.

Ausser dem urbanistischen und historischen Wert bietet Dolceacqua einen anderen wichtigen Aspekt, der mit der Weinproduktion  zu tun hat. Das Dorf liegt nähmlich im Nervia Tal, wo man den ausgezeichneten Wein, Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC produziert. Der rubinrote volle Wein hat intensive Aromastoffen, die  mit der Zeit stärker werden.

Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC kann man mit weissen Fleischen, Ziegen- Wildschwein-  und  Hasenfleisch sowie einigen Fischarten und reifen Käsen am besten kombinieren. Nervia Tal und das Land in der Nähe von Imperia sind die einziegen Orte, wo man Rossese DOC finden kann, dessen Eigenschaften sogar von Napoleon geschätzt wurden.

L’autunno italiano è costellato da numerose sagre che valorizzano i prodotti locali di ogni singola regione. Tradizioni, coltivazioni e produzioni diverse si sono sviluppate nei secoli dando vita ad un grande patrimonio eno-gastronomico e culturale. Uno dei tanti eventi dell’autunno è la Sagra di Melfi dedicata alla Varola, la castagna della Basilicata in lizza per l’ottenimento del marchio IGP.

Da oltre 50 anni la Sagra della Varola si svolge nel penultimo weekend di ottobre. Attorno al piccolo grande frutto, utilizzato in un’infinità di ricette, hanno luogo degustazioni di caldarroste e piatti a base di castagne, spettacoli, esibizioni di gruppi folk e l’allestimento di stand dove poter acquistare una vasta gamma di prodotti incentrati sulla tipica castagna del Vulture, dalla forma piuttosto grande e tondeggiante.

Melfi, città dal vasto patrimonio storico, diventa così lo sfondo di una vivace festa popolare che ogni anno attira turisti provenienti da ogni parte d’Italia, sempre più numerosi e curiosi di conoscere anche le testimonianze storiche della città, tra cui le numerose chiese e il castello normanno, perfettamente conservato, il più famoso della Basilicata.

Melfi: the Varola chestnut Festival

Autumn in Italy is the ideal period to partecipate in festivals taking place in villages and towns  around the country. A great wine and food heritage, developed in the centuries on local different productions and traditions, can be discovered tanks to many events, one of which is the Varola chestnut Festival in Melfi.

The Varola is a big rounded chestnut, typical of the Vulture area  in Basilicata, a region in the deepest Southern Italy. The Melfi festival, dedicated to this small grand fruit competing for the IGP trademark, has been a folk attraction for 52 years and takes place on the second-last weekend of October.

For the occasion, the streets of Melfi  fill with people strolling along the stands  displaying a wide range  of products related to the typical chestnut, testing roasted fruits and chestnut dishes. Folk shows and music  make the atmosphere cheerful and lively, attracting numerous tourists coming not only from Basilicata, but from other Italian regions as well.

The Varola Festival is a great opportunity to know the history of Melfi, with several old churches but above all the Norman Castle, still in a good state, the most famous fortified building in Basilicata.

Melfi: das Varola Kastanienfest 

Herbst in Italien ist die beste Zeit für viele Landfeste, die in kleinen Dörfern und Städten überall stattfinden. Ein Ereigniss, das das reiche eno-gastronomische Kulturgut von jahrhundertelangen Traditionen Italiens feiert, ist das Varola Kastanienfest in Melfi.

Die Varola ist eine grosse rundliche Kastanie aus Vulture in der Basilikata, ein Gebiet  im tiefen Süditalien. Die kleine Frucht strebt nach dem IGP Echtheitszeichen und wird in Melfi am vorletzten Oktoberwochenende gefeiert.

Während des Festes, das über 50 Jahre organisiert wird, füllen die Strassen der Stadt mit Leuten, die geröstete Kastanien und mit der kleinen Frucht zubereiteten Speisen kosten können. Volksmusik und Vorstellungen unterhalten die vielen Touristen, die auch aus anderen Gebieten Italiens kommen und durch die Verkaufsstände von Kastanienprodukten aller Art schlendern.

Das Varolafest bietet die Gelegenheit die historische Stadt von Melfi kennenzulernen, mit ihren alten Kirchen und besonders dem Normannenschloss, der berühmteste befestigte Aufbau in der Basilikata.
